Comfort in the quiet

I used to loathe
(stretches of)
silence,
convinced that
awkwardness grew
with each passing second.
I would interrupt
the stillness with
meaningless chatter
(or nervous laughter).
Now, I find
comfort in the quiet
(moments).
Mornings when we
walk to the train station
(hand in hand).
Afternoons when we
read our respective books
(beside each other).
Evenings when we
hug tightly
(after a long workday).
I appreciate
these wordless moments
as much as
lengthy speeches.
